Plot: In uncertain future paraplegic former marine Jake Sully is sent to a strange and mysterious planet called Pandora. It is covered by dense primeval forests and unknown alien creatures, for example the intelligent ethnic beings "Na'Vi". Pandora is meant to serve as a new home for humanity and source of the rare mineral "Unobtainium". As Jake is not able to serve in combat any longer he helps a scientific group to examine the Na'Vi's mysteries. Therefor he controlles a hybrid Human/Na'Vi "Avatar" that can breathe the slightly toxic air of Pandora and chum up with native inhabitans. So Jake meets the femal Na'Vi Neytiri.
Avatar impresses in many ways. It shows a huge variety of fantastic plants and creatures, underlayed by awsome sound effects, a mixture of real and animated pictures as well as the featured 3-dimensional experience. This world is designed wonderfully and the story is not too simple. It even shows some special turnings in the plot, though it might seem a little conventional.
Gomtuu Opinion: Even if You are not fond of Sci Fi or nerved by the massive promotion You are going to admit this is great entertainment no matter if 3D or not. Some may even call the fascinating experience addictive. Avatar is strongly recommended.
